Even with the extremely hot temperatures, it's impossible to miss the little signals that fall is coming. Stores are flooded with school supplies and backpacks, school-age kids are a little jumpy — both excited and nervous — and parents are juggling emotions ranging from elation to melancholy that summer is almost over.
As a church community, we’ve had such an incredible "Summer of Fun," with events ranging from watching Spain win the World Cup to experiencing Colorado through amazing bike rides across the foothills. It has been so beautiful to see all the interests and gifts within our community, along with all the connections made over these last few months. We are closing out our Summer of Fun with an epic pool party at The Club at Foxridge next Wednesday, August 12, from 5PM to 8PM. Click here to email Stefanie Fox and RSVP.
At Platt Park Church, we have a beloved tradition of marking the change of seasons as we move into fall: our Promotion Sunday celebration. The transition into a new academic year is one of the most significant rhythms our families and community experience. It’s easy to view Promotion Sunday as a simple logistical step — moving kids into new classrooms or updating attendance rosters. But in our faith community, it means a lot more. Promotion Sunday is about recognizing and honoring the continual changes of life, taking a moment to celebrate where we've been, and looking toward where we're going. It is a "threshold" moment where we honor what has come before and acknowledge that stepping into the unknown can feel unsettling.
On Promotion Sunday, we intentionally honor each part of our church family:
- For our students of all ages: We celebrate their growth, courage, and curiosity as they step into new grades, new schools, and new chapters of learning.
- For our teachers, administrators, and school staff: We honor the immense dedication, heart, and energy they pour into our schools and neighborhoods. As they re-enter the demanding rhythms of the school year, we want to surround them with gratitude and prayer.
- For our entire church body: We reaffirm our promise to walk alongside every generation, offering prayer and a steady spiritual home no matter how fast the world around us changes.
Whether you have a child advancing to a new class, work in education, or simply want to surround our local students and educators with love and prayer, we hope you’ll join us on Sunday, August 23 for Promotion Sunday.
A prayer as we transition into fall:
Holy and unchanging God,
You made the seasons and chart our lives through changes and transitions as we hold excitement for what is coming, mixed with grief for what is ending.
Bless our students with hearts curious enough to ask big questions, minds open to embrace truth, and spirits brave enough to be kind and truly see others with hearts like Yours.
Bless our community's teachers, staff, and administrators with patience and joy in their roles. Give them energy and perseverance in the face of tight budgets, exhaustion, and anxiety, and help them know their immense value as messengers of Your love and grace to every student they meet.
Bless the parents and caregivers of students of all ages. Grant them wisdom as they guide, love, and nurture the children in their care. Give them an extra measure of Your grace, patience, and encouragement — especially on the hard days, whether it’s a forgotten assignment, a late-night homework meltdown, or a child struggling to find their way. Remind them that they are not alone.
Bless our church family as we hold our students and educators in prayer throughout the school year, offering encouraging hugs whenever needed. Help us love, support, and pray for the schools in our neighborhood. We specifically pray for Jillian Watson, the new principal at Grant Beacon Middle School — our church's closest neighboring school. Bless her with wisdom, courage, joy, and influence.
Be with us, Lord, as we walk into this next season together.
Amen.
