Our small group met this week for the first time after taking the summer off. We shared a delicious potluck meal and caught up on everything that’s been happening in our lives. We see each other on Sundays, but there’s rarely time to really unpack the joys, deep heartache, and little moments that make up daily life.
When our group first started, most of us didn’t know each other well. We are in different life stages, live in different parts of the suburbs and city, and bring different theological backgrounds. And meeting together on a weekly basis has knitted us together into a relationship that feels deeply sacred.
One member has shared how she felt God calling her to “submit to community”—to give her time, energy, and honest self to a group, trusting God to shape her through it. That phrase has stuck with me. Because really, that’s the reason for small groups: we show up, we share life, and God meets us through one another.
Small groups at Platt Park aren’t just a church program—they’re one of the beautiful ways God grows us and cares for us. And they take many forms. Some study the Bible together. Others serve, create, or care for our building. Some form naturally from shared interests, geography, or life stage. Whatever the shape, being together with the intention of following and being formed by Jesus is a sacred thing.
If you haven’t signed up for a group this fall, I encourage you to pray about it. Look through the list of groups and see if God might be inviting you to try something new. Or consider joining a serving team—you may be surprised how God shows up there. And if you see a gap—a group or ministry we’re not currently offering—maybe you’re the one to start it! Reach out to Anne; we’d love to help you bring it to life.
I’m grateful to be on this journey with you and eager to see the ways God will reveal Himself through our community this season.
With Love,
Holly
