Holly talked about wind last week in her article, so I’m going to keep it “elemental” and talk about fire this week.

Wind and fire just happen to be the first two things that happen while the 120 followers of Jesus were waiting in an upper room for this… thing… Jesus told them to wait for.  They have no idea what exactly they are waiting for, but we get the idea that “they’ll know when they know.”

Let’s talk about fire.  I’m going to challenge you to grab your Bible and a concordance (or for those of you born more recently, your computer and a Bible website or app) and look through the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) and see how fire is talked about.  If you would, try and trace the fire that sits in the tabernacle.  Where did it come from?  What does it represent?  What does God tell the Israelites about Himself with this fire?  It’s a fun thing to do and it will prepare you for what we are going to talk about tomorrow.

Tomorrow is Pentecost Sunday.  I believe Pentecost is possibly the most important and/or at least the most practical, tangible day that we celebrate in our Christian world.

Think about why that might be.

Christmas gives us the Incarnation of God becoming one of us so we can forever relate to Him.

Good Friday gives us the actual death of God/Human that destroys the power of death, hell, and shame.

Easter proves that death is overcome forever, that Life and Love reign forever in our creation, and that Jesus is on the throne of Eternity.

Pentecost gives us…… what?  Ask yourself that question.  Think about it.

We’ll talk more on Sunday.
