I love November. Every part of it. I love the weather, and the colors, and the tastes. I love Thanksgiving. I even love the sound of saying “November.” One of the things that I love most about November is our family tradition that started when the kids were little. On our walks to and from school in October, we’d stop to pick up the prettiest fallen leaves. We stick them in a big, heavy book until November 1st. Then, starting on the first day of November, we set out a small light-up aspen tree on our dining room table, along with a plate of the dried leaves, some markers, and a bit of fishing line.

Each evening during dinner — for the entire month of November — when one of us thinks of something we’re thankful for, we write it on a leaf and tie it to the tree. There are always a few funny ones and inside jokes, but also some beautiful snapshots of what’s happening in our family. This year, three leaves simply say “Oliver.” (We miss him and are counting down the days until he’s home for Thanksgiving.)

Our family began attending Platt Park Church in the spring of 2017, and every year since, there’s been at least one leaf that says “Platt Park Church”—often accompanied by a little drawing of the nest or the doors. I say it often, but it’s worth repeating over and over again: I am so deeply grateful for each and every one of you. This community has shaped, supported, and celebrated our family in countless ways. We wouldn’t be who we are without you.

And that’s why I love the church Thanksgiving Potluck so very very much. Yes, it’s a celebration of the season (and all the delicious dishes that come with it!), but it’s also a celebration of you—the people who make Platt Park so incredibly unique and amazing.

Please come to the Thanksgiving Potluck on Sunday, November 23rd! We’re inviting everyone to bring a dish your grandmother—or another loved one—might have made for a special meal. Or just grab something from the grocery store on your way to church! We simply want you there. We’ll also have a Christmas photo area set up so you can take pictures with your friends and family! Click the button below to RSVP so we can have a seat ready for you.

Thank you. I am so grateful for you.
